BREAKING: Moo Joe’s Ice Cream has officially opened its doors in Evanston, Illinois, promising a delightful array of funky ice cream flavors just in time for the warmer weather. Located on Central Street, the shop began serving customers in December 2023 and is gearing up for a grand opening celebration this spring.
With temperatures soaring above the 40s this week, locals are flocking to Moo Joe’s to enjoy a sweet treat. The shop is currently operating with limited hours from Wednesdays to Sundays, creating a buzz among ice cream enthusiasts eager to indulge in unique flavors like Fat Elvis and Coconut Almond Bliss.
Moo Joe’s has transformed the former Parlor location into a cozy parlor, adorned with pink and white candy-striped walls, high-top stools, and an inviting gallery wall of plastic ice cream cones. The vibrant atmosphere, coupled with fairy lights wrapping around nearby trees, makes for an ideal spring outing.
The shop’s pricing is on the higher side, with small cups starting at $4.95 and large cups reaching $10. Their offerings include a variety of scoops served in cups, sugar cones, and waffle cones, along with enticing $6.95 ice cream floats.
I sampled the Fat Elvis, a sweet banana ice cream swirled with peanut butter and chocolate chips. This flavor, inspired by Elvis Presley’s favorite sandwich, was a delightful surprise, balancing sweetness with a savory twist. The ice cream was slightly icy but still satisfying.
In addition, I tried the Heaps of Love, featuring a generous mix of Oreo crumbles, brownies, cookie dough, pecans, caramel, and chocolate in vanilla ice cream. While ambitious, the numerous mix-ins made it overly sweet for my taste.
We also enjoyed the Coconut Almond Bliss, which features coconut ice cream with chocolate flakes and crispy almond pieces. This flavor was a hit, delivering a delightful crunch and rich sweetness, perfect for those who love the Almond Joy treat.
Moo Joe’s caters to various dietary needs, marking several flavors gluten-free and accommodating allergies to egg, peanuts, tree-nuts, and soy. This makes it a competitive alternative to popular downtown ice cream shops like Kilwin’s and Cold Stone Creamery.
As the weather warms up, Moo Joe’s is poised to become a go-to destination for ice cream lovers in Evanston. The charming location and unique flavors are sure to draw in crowds, making it an essential stop this spring.
Stay tuned for updates on their grand opening celebration and additional flavor releases as Moo Joe’s continues to make waves in the local ice cream scene.
