Mountaineers Surge Past Beavers 55-35 in Season Opener

URGENT UPDATE: The Rainier Mountaineers have claimed a decisive victory against their South Thurston County rivals, the Tenino Beavers, with a score of 55-35 in a thrilling season opener held at Tenino High School on November 10, 2023. This marks the second consecutive year the Mountaineers have triumphed over the Beavers in their first matchup of the season.

Trailing by just two points after the first quarter, the Mountaineers (1-0) turned the game around dramatically. They exploded offensively, scoring 12 points in the second quarter, followed by 20 points in the third, and finishing strong with another 18 points in the fourth.

Peyton Sheaffer, a standout player and returning first-team all-league honoree, led the scoring with a remarkable 21 points. His teammate Ty Beckman also made a significant impact, contributing 16 points including four crucial three-pointers.

For the Beavers (0-1), Jeremiah McKague was the leading scorer with 13 points, but despite a spirited effort in the final quarter, the gap proved insurmountable. The Beavers will look to bounce back as they prepare to face Kalama at home on Wednesday.
