Nonprofit to Pay Off Mortgage for Fallen Burnsville Firefighter

UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has just announced it will pay off the mortgage of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth’s family. This generous act comes as part of the organization’s Fallen First Responder Home Program, aimed at supporting families of heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On February 18, 2024, Finseth, 40, was tragically killed while responding to a domestic violence incident that turned deadly. Alongside Burnsville police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, Finseth was ambushed during a standoff, where his bravery shone through in a moment of crisis. He was identified as the department’s Firefighter of the Year for his dedicated service, which included responding to an urgent call to aid seven children at risk.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the tragic events of September 11, 2001, emphasizes the heroism of first responders like Finseth, stating he “acted without hesitation in his last moments.” In a shocking turn of events, the gunman opened fire without warning, fatally wounding Finseth as he attempted to provide medical aid to a fellow officer. Fortunately, the children and the gunman’s girlfriend were unharmed.

Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann praised Finseth’s commitment, noting, “He showed his unwavering dedication when he responded … in the middle of the night because seven children were at risk.” The community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, and the mortgage relief is a significant gesture of support for Finseth’s family as they navigate this tragic loss.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s initiative is part of its 2025 Season of Hope, which aims to uplift families affected by the sacrifices made by first responders. This urgent assistance highlights the ongoing need for community support in times of crisis, especially for families left behind.

As the situation unfolds, the Burnsville community and first responders across the nation are reflecting on the bravery exhibited by Finseth and his colleagues. Authorities continue to encourage support for the families of fallen heroes as they face unimaginable grief.
