Oregon Ducks Welcome New Quarterbacks Coach Koa Ka’ai

The Oregon Ducks have appointed Koa Ka’ai as their new quarterbacks coach following a successful season that saw the team reach the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Peach Bowl. Under the guidance of former offensive coordinator Will Stein, who has since moved to Kentucky, the Ducks finished the 2024 season with a commendable record of 13-2. With Dante Moore returning for another season, the team is poised for another strong campaign.

Drew Mehringer, who previously served as Oregon’s tight ends coach, has stepped up to take on the role of offensive coordinator. After Oregon’s spring practice on Saturday, Mehringer expressed his confidence in Ka’ai’s capabilities. He highlighted Ka’ai’s intelligence and work ethic, which he believes will contribute significantly to the Ducks’ success.

Mehringer Praises Ka’ai’s Coaching Style

“Koa is a stud,” Mehringer remarked, emphasizing his high regard for Ka’ai’s coaching abilities. He acknowledged having worked alongside talented young coaches, including Jordan Salkin, now an assistant quarterbacks coach for the Cincinnati Bengals. Mehringer noted that Ka’ai possesses a unique balance of firmness and approachability that is critical for quarterback development.

“He has an incredible balance in being firm but not making the guys tense,” Mehringer explained. He believes that structure is essential for quarterbacks, as they need guidance rather than an unstructured approach. Ka’ai’s leadership style aims to foster an environment where players can thrive and develop their skills effectively.

Meanwhile, Moore, who is considered one of the top prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft, made the decision to return for another season. With aspirations of national championship success and the Heisman Trophy, Moore is focused on reducing turnovers and enhancing his performance as the Ducks’ starting quarterback. Last season, he threw for 3,565 yards, achieving 30 touchdowns against 10 interceptions.

Upcoming Spring Game and Fan Engagement

The Ducks will host their annual spring game on April 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. PT, providing fans an opportunity to see the team in action. The game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network, serving as an early indication of the Ducks’ readiness for the upcoming season.

As Oregon gears up for the summer months, fans can look forward to observing how Ka’ai’s coaching influences Moore’s development and the overall performance of the Ducks. With high hopes for the season ahead, the Ducks are eager to build on their recent successes.
