Palomar College Men’s Basketball Eyes JC Supremacy with 10-4 Start

UPDATE: Palomar College’s men’s basketball team is making headlines with a strong 10-4 start and an impressive 2-0 record in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC). With their eyes set on challenging for the championship, they are positioning themselves as a formidable contender this season.

Just announced, the Comets are determined to dethrone reigning champions San Diego City College, who have claimed the last two PCAC titles. Coach Ivan Patterson emphasized the team’s potential, stating, “We know what we’re capable of. Every game comes down to us.”

Currently ranked 17th in the state by the California Community College Athletic Association, Palomar’s performance shows promise. The team’s only losses have come against opponents ranked in the top 25, demonstrating their resilience and competitive spirit.

Leading the charge is Isaiah Pomare, a 6-foot-5 sophomore, who is averaging an impressive 19.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. His versatility allows him to play both forward and guard positions, showcasing his skills on the perimeter. “We have a lot more size than last year,” Pomare noted, highlighting the team’s improved structure.

Joining Pomare is Justin White, a 6-foot-6 transfer who adds depth to the roster. Averaging 12.4 points and 4.9 rebounds, White’s experience at Cal State Fullerton and Cal State San Marcos has been invaluable. “One reason I came here was to help Isaiah out,” White shared, emphasizing their collaborative dynamic on the court.

With Angel Ochoa at point guard, averaging 13.4 points and 4.6 assists, the Comets are not just relying on their stars. Coach Patterson highlighted the importance of guard play as the season progresses, stating, “Guards become more valuable the deeper you get into the season.”

The chemistry among the players is palpable. Patterson remarked on the strong bond between Pomare and White, noting, “Having Justin inside has helped Pomare develop on the outside without having to worry about playing low-post defense against bigger players.”

As the team continues to build on their momentum, fans are eagerly watching how they will perform against top-tier competition. With their next game approaching, the Comets are focused on maintaining their winning streak and proving they have what it takes to compete for the PCAC title.

Palomar College’s journey this season is not just about wins and losses; it’s about growth, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. Expect to see more thrilling developments as the season unfolds, with fans rallying behind their team in hopes of a championship run.
