BREAKING: The community of Santa Cruz is mourning the loss of Sally Cooper, a devoted wife, mother, and community leader, who passed away at the age of 71 on December 5, 2025. A beloved figure, Sally dedicated her life to nurturing youth and supporting local initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives.
Sally was born on November 4, 1953, in Long Beach, California, and moved to Santa Cruz at the age of nine. She graduated from Soquel High School in 1971, where she first met her husband, Kevin Cooper. The couple celebrated a remarkable 54 years of marriage, sharing a life filled with love and commitment.
Known for her vibrant energy and kindness, Sally spent many years coaching youth soccer and working for the Soquel School District. Her passion for education and community service touched the hearts of many students, families, and friends, reinforcing her legacy as a pillar of support in the community.
Sally is survived by her husband, Kevin; her sons, Chris, Brian, and Jake; her daughter, Amy; and her five cherished grandchildren: Bradley, Troy, Logan, Kendall, and Kenzie. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, William, who provided her with comfort and companionship over the years.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, located at 435 Monterey Ave, Capitola, on Wednesday, December 10th at 10:00 a.m.. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the SPCA in Sally’s memory, honoring her lifelong love for animals and commitment to community welfare.
