Snow Hits Southern California: Ski Resorts Open for Thanksgiving

UPDATE: Southern California is officially open for winter fun as ski resorts welcome snow enthusiasts just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. With fresh snowfall, Mountain High Resorts in Wrightwood is inviting visitors to hit the slopes, boasting 12-16 inches of fresh powder and five trails operational since November 22, 2025.

Snowboarders and skiers can enjoy the winter wonderland as the resort kicks off its busiest season yet. The opening weekend attracted around 2,000 visitors, marking the best turnout in a decade. This exciting news comes amid closures on Highway 38, which remains inaccessible due to storm damage.

For those heading to Big Bear, alternative routes are available via Highway 330 through Highland, or Highway 18 through San Bernardino and Crestline. Despite the road issues, Big Bear Snow Play is fully operational, offering three snow tubing runs. Director of Operations Scott Voigt said, “The timing is perfect for those looking for something to do this Thanksgiving.” Tubing hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with special glow tubing sessions starting November 28 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

However, Big Bear Mountain Resort is still closed for the season as officials await updates on when they can welcome guests. Resort spokesperson Justin Kanton mentioned that they hope to provide more information next week.

As temperatures drop and conditions improve, Mountain High will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. through the weekend, including a DJ event on November 29 featuring William Reed, a noted figure in Germany’s underground music scene.

This Thanksgiving weekend is shaping up to be a thrilling start to the winter season. Families and friends are encouraged to bundle up, grab their snow gear, and enjoy the fresh mountain air. With outdoor activities in full swing, the excitement is palpable—don’t miss out on the fun!
