BREAKING: Retired Tewksbury Fire Chief James J. Morris, aged 97, has passed away peacefully at his home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Tewksbury, Morris’s death marks the end of an era for the community he served for nearly four decades.
Morris, who dedicated his life to firefighting, was a beloved figure in Tewksbury. He leaves behind his wife, Constance R. Morris, with whom he shared 73 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Deborah J. Goodwin, James W. Morris, Constance R. Morris, and the late Frederick R. Morris. His family also includes eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Born on June 28, 1928, in Lowell, MA, Morris served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War before dedicating himself to the Tewksbury Fire Department. He retired as Fire Chief in 1988, after 38 years of service, earning respect and admiration for his commitment to public safety.
His family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, located at 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury, concluding with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
