Texas First Lady Launches Urgent Week of Prayer Against Trafficking

UPDATE: First Lady Cecilia Abbott has just launched the sixth annual Week of Prayer to End Human Trafficking as part of the Governor’s Response Against Child Exploitation (GRACE) initiative. Running from January 5 through January 11, 2025, this urgent initiative calls on all Texans to unite against the horrors of human trafficking during Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

This interfaith observance seeks to mobilize communities across Texas to engage in prayer, enhance their understanding of human trafficking, and discern actionable roles in preventing exploitation. Abbott emphasized the collective power of prayer and action, stating,

“Nothing is stronger than Texans standing together through prayer and action.”

Her message underscores the critical need for community involvement in supporting victims and disrupting trafficking networks.

The week-long initiative will focus on daily prayer intentions designed to address specific facets of human trafficking. Each day will highlight themes such as exposing exploiters, raising awareness, supporting trauma-informed investigations, and promoting healing for survivors. These targeted reflections aim to foster a comprehensive approach to tackling human trafficking from both legal and emotional perspectives.

Officials from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) are also urging participation. Commissioner Audrey O’Neill and DFPS Director of Human Trafficking Blanca Lance have announced the release of the 2026 Human Trafficking Prevention and Awareness Month guide. This vital resource will provide educational opportunities and community support to empower Texans in the battle against this pressing issue.

As the week progresses, Abbott and state officials express hope that the combined efforts of prayer and community engagement will not only comfort those affected but also actively disrupt the cycle of trafficking. The state’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking extends beyond prayer, reaching into the streets where the vulnerable seek refuge and justice.

Texans are encouraged to dedicate moments during this week to join GRACE in its mission to protect the vulnerable and stand against exploitation. The call to action is clear: solidarity is essential in combating such a grave issue, and every prayer counts in the fight for justice and healing.

The collective action and awareness raised during this week are vital steps in building a future where human trafficking is eradicated. Texans are urged to share this important initiative widely and participate in the daily intentions, amplifying their impact across the state.

Stay tuned for further updates as Texas takes a united stand against human trafficking, demonstrating that together, change is not just possible—it’s imperative.
