UPDATE: The Tumwater Thunderbirds have just crushed the East Valley Red Devils 42-0 in the 2A state semifinals, securing a spot in the state championship game for the third consecutive year. This historic achievement marks the first time Tumwater has reached the title game three times in a row, showcasing their dominance in Washington high school football.
The decisive victory took place at Tumwater District Stadium on November 25, 2025, as the Thunderbirds displayed an overwhelming offensive and defensive performance. They held East Valley, a previously undefeated team, to a mere 61 passing yards and zero points, marking East Valley’s first shutout since spring 2021.
Early in the game, Tumwater set the tone with a 9-yard touchdown run by Tyler Briscoe, followed by three more touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 26-yard pass from Jaxon Budd to Wyatt Chase that extended their lead to 14-0. Tumwater’s offense was relentless, finishing the game with an impressive 334 rushing yards.
Coach William Garrow praised his team’s preparation and execution, stating, “Our defense was dialed in from the kickoff.” Tumwater’s defense forced East Valley to turn over the ball on downs multiple times, stifling any chances for the Red Devils to score.
Peyton Davis, despite dealing with a hamstring injury, led the rushing attack with 97 yards and a touchdown, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. His determination resonated with the team, as he emphasized the importance of contributing to the victory, saying, “I just wanted what’s best for the team.”
The Thunderbirds will face Archbishop Murphy in the state championship at Husky Stadium on December 6, 2025, at 3 p.m. A win would mark their first state championship since 2019, a goal they are fiercely pursuing after falling short in the last two title games.
Garrow reflected on the team’s journey, drawing parallels between this year’s squad and the talented 2019 team. “These guys are a little bit grittier. I hope our guys get a chance to win it next week,” he stated.
As Tumwater prepares for the championship, the players are fueled by their previous disappointments. Senior Jayden Hinchcliffe expressed the collective desire to win, stating, “It would mean everything. It takes everybody.”
With the momentum from this dominant semifinal performance, Tumwater is poised to claim their spot in history and bring home the state title. Fans and supporters are eagerly awaiting the championship showdown, ready to rally behind their team in this pivotal moment.
