UPDATE: Two men have been arrested following a dramatic shooting incident that unfolded in Ventura County early on October 8, 2023. The suspects, identified as Juan Hernandez Nunez, 20, and Angel Fuentes Hernandez, 21, are accused of firing shots into a home in the 400 block of Stroube Street in the El Rio area of Oxnard.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office confirms that deputies responded to reports of gunfire around 12:30 a.m.. Upon arrival, they learned the shooting was linked to an ongoing domestic violence situation. The suspects fled the scene in a getaway vehicle, prompting a swift police response.
Shortly after the initial call, deputies spotted the suspects’ car at a gas station in Camarillo. In a tense encounter, deputies attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the suspects sped off, entering the 101 Freeway before abandoning their car near the Kanan Road exit.
Authorities later located the abandoned vehicle and were able to identify Nunez and Hernandez through evidence gathered at the scene. A search warrant executed at Nunez’s residence in Sylmar revealed further evidence linking the suspects to the crime.
Nunez faces serious charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied dwelling, and making criminal threats. He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond. Hernandez has been arrested as an accessory to the shooting and was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported among the occupants of the El Rio home during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to uncover more details about the suspects’ relationship to the victim. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as detectives continue to piece together this troubling case.
