Upper Darby Firefighters Deliver 40+ Thanksgiving Food Boxes

URGENT UPDATE: Upper Darby firefighters have just completed a heartfelt initiative, delivering over 40 boxes of Thanksgiving food to families in need. On Saturday, November 25, 2023, members gathered at the Cardington fire station, showcasing their commitment to community support as the holiday season approaches.

The event, organized by retired Chief Ed Cubler, has been a staple in Upper Darby for decades. Cubler, a lifelong fireman, has been dedicated to providing Thanksgiving meals to those who may not otherwise have the means to celebrate. His leadership and dedication have inspired the Upper Darby Fire Department, comprised of IAFF Local 2493 firefighters and their families, to come together and contribute to this worthy cause.

Firefighters, along with the new Fire Chief Nick Martin, mobilized quickly to assemble and distribute the food boxes, ensuring that families receive complete Thanksgiving meals along with extra holiday items. Each box is packed with essential items needed for a true Thanksgiving feast, making a significant impact in the community.

Josh Laubach, Shop Steward for IAFF Local 2493, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that the spirit of giving is alive and well within the fire department. “It’s heartwarming to see our members and their families come together for such a meaningful cause,” Laubach remarked.

This annual event not only provides food but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion among the firefighters and the community. As families prepare for the holiday, the generosity displayed by the Upper Darby Fire Department serves as a reminder of the power of community support.
