Urgent: Heavy Snow Hits NE Ohio, Commute Delayed Until 9 AM

URGENT UPDATE: A significant winter storm is currently impacting Northeast Ohio, with forecasts from the National Weather Service predicting up to 5 inches of snow by 9 a.m. today. Drivers are urged to leave early as road conditions are expected to be treacherous, with slippery surfaces and reduced visibility.

The winter weather advisory indicates snow accumulation rates could reach 1 inch per hour, leading to longer commute times. Ohio Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Kovacs emphasizes, “You can’t get the work in the normal amount of time that it would take. It’s going to take you longer.”

As of 4:15 a.m., travel has already begun to slow on major highways in the Cleveland area, particularly at highway exchanges. In Lake County, the speed limit on Interstate 90 east of Ohio 44 has been reduced to 60 mph due to the hazardous conditions reported by the Ohio Department of Transportation.

A parking ban is currently in effect in Cleveland, prohibiting stopping, standing, and parking of vehicles on city streets marked with red and white signs. This measure is designed to facilitate snow removal efforts as approximately 250 ODOT plow trucks are actively working to keep roads clear during the storm. Statewide, around 1,500 trucks are deployed to manage the conditions, according to reports from the Columbus Dispatch.

Commuters are advised to plan for delays and exercise caution while driving. The snowstorm is expected to continue affecting travel until the early afternoon, making it imperative for residents to stay updated on road conditions.
