Urgent Thanksgiving Meals Served to Pasadena Community Amid Need

UPDATE: In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Union Station Homeless Services (USHS) served hot Thanksgiving meals to those in need at their Adult Center in Pasadena, California, on November 26, 2025. This urgent initiative comes amid rising food insecurity as families face increasing grocery prices and cuts to federal food benefits.

Volunteers, including actress Adina Porter and Rep. Laura Friedman (D-Burbank), joined local leaders like Pasadena Councilmember Jessica Rivas and Housing Director Jim Wong to distribute meals. Porter, representing Feeding America, shared her personal connection to the cause, stating, “I wish we didn’t live in a world where there was so much food insecurity, but I’m beyond grateful for organizations like Feeding America.”

The Thanksgiving event served a traditional meal, with no requirements to receive food, allowing community members to dine in or take meals home. USHS has a proud history of not turning away anyone seeking a warm meal during the holiday season for over 50 years.

In a generous show of support, former Van Halen singer David Lee Roth donated $25,000, aided by contributions from the Green Foundation and Bigo Live, amounting to $15,000, to help cover the event’s costs.

Community members gathered to enjoy hearty meals, with many expressing gratitude for the support during challenging times. “I am thankful for all the volunteers and staff that have helped make this year’s meal service a success, as well as all the families that come out to celebrate with us,” said Friedman.

Simultaneously, Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles County Supervisor, led her annual Day of Giving, focusing on community service events across the Fifth District. Activities included assisting a family affected by the Eaton fire, where Barger and her team volunteered to rebuild homes, ensuring they are ready before Christmas.

As food insecurity continues to rise, the need for community-driven efforts like these is more critical than ever. The USHS event highlights the importance of compassion and unity during the holiday season, showing that together, communities can make a significant impact.

This Thanksgiving, the spirit of giving resonated strongly throughout Pasadena, with numerous organizations stepping up to serve those in need. The efforts reflect not only a commitment to alleviating hunger but also a heartfelt message of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
