Urgent Update: Six Fatal Traffic Crashes Shock San Diego County

UPDATE: Authorities have identified six individuals who tragically lost their lives in a series of traffic accidents across San Diego County over the past two weeks. These incidents, occurring in rapid succession, highlight a growing concern for pedestrian and driver safety in the region.

The most recent fatality was reported at approximately 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, when 57-year-old Alexander Leroux was struck by a vehicle in the 3500 block of India Street, Middletown. Paramedics transported Leroux to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

This incident unfolded just hours after another pedestrian was killed. At around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 83-year-old Eduardo Sanchez was hit by a 2011 Jeep Liberty in the 200 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard. He sustained severe injuries, including a brain bleed and a pelvic fracture, and succumbed to his injuries the following evening.

Earlier in the week, on November 15, 21-year-old Esteban Rodriguez lost his life when his sedan veered off state Route 125 and collided with a tree in Spring Valley. Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Tragedy struck yet again just hours before Rodriguez’s accident. On November 20 at around 4:30 a.m., Guillermo Pagan, aged 55, was gravely injured after being struck by an SUV while walking on state Route 94, west of Hillside Drive in Jamul. He died before paramedics could transport him to a hospital.

Another pedestrian fatality occurred on November 19 at approximately 4:45 a.m. when 38-year-old Eleanor Anslow was hit by multiple vehicles while in the roadway in the 7500 block of Mission Gorge Road, San Carlos. Anslow was pronounced dead at the scene.

Finally, 89-year-old Lucy Prewitt Starkes was critically injured in a collision on November 18. She was making a left turn from Imperial Avenue to Viewcrest Drive when her Volkswagen Jetta was struck by a Ford Excursion shortly after 10:30 a.m.. Starkes was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she passed away six days later due to extensive injuries, including brain bleeds and a spinal fracture.

These incidents raise urgent questions regarding road safety and driver awareness in San Diego County. Authorities are calling for increased vigilance and caution among drivers and pedestrians alike.
