West Scranton’s Roy Ayala Shatters Records in Swim Victory

URGENT UPDATE: In a stunning display of athleticism, Roy Ayala of West Scranton shattered two long-standing swimming records during a decisive 99-76 victory over Elk Lake on July 15, 2023. Ayala’s performance at the Lackawanna League boys’ swim meet was nothing short of historic.

Ayala clocked an impressive 53.88 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, obliterating the previous school record of 54.42 set by Jerry Patrick Jr. back in 1982. Furthermore, he claimed the 100 breaststroke title with a time of 1:00.66, establishing a new record at the West Scranton Intermediate Pool, surpassing his own mark of 1:01.17 earlier this season.

Adding to the excitement, Ayala’s brother, Jordan Ayala, also excelled, winning two individual events: the 200 IM and the 100 free. The duo teamed up to dominate both the 200 medley and 200 free relay, showcasing their prowess and teamwork.

Elk Lake’s Isaiah Jones made his mark as well, winning the 200 free and 500 free, but it wasn’t enough to topple the powerhouse performance from West Scranton.
