Scottish actor and writer Alan Cumming has been announced as the host for the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards. The prestigious ceremony, celebrating excellence in film, will be held at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 22, 2026. Cumming takes over the hosting duties from David Tennant, who led the event in 2024 and 2025.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards are among the most significant events in the film calendar, showcasing the achievements of both on-screen and off-screen talent from around the globe. The ceremony will be broadcast live on BBC One and available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
Cumming is celebrated for his extensive career in the arts, which spans television, film, and theatre. He has received numerous accolades, including the Tony and Olivier Awards for his role in *Cabaret*, as well as a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his performance in *The Good Wife*. More recently, he has captured audiences as the host and producer of *The Traitors U.S.*, earning four Emmys and two Critics’ Choice awards.
In his statement regarding the upcoming event, Cumming expressed enthusiasm for returning to the BAFTA family. “How exciting to be back in the BAFTA fold,” he said. “This time hosting the EE BAFTA Film Awards, a night like no other when we celebrate and honour creativity and craftsmanship, and also hopefully have a laugh and create some mischief as we do so!”
Executive Director of Awards and Content at BAFTA, Emma Baehr, also shared her excitement about Cumming’s selection as host. She highlighted his “sharp wit, warmth, and vibrant energy,” stating that they are looking forward to an unforgettable night filled with laughter, magic, and surprises.
The EE BAFTA Film Awards comprise 25 competitive categories, all determined by BAFTA voting members. The organization represents one of the largest voting bodies for film, games, and television in the United Kingdom, with nearly 14,000 creative practitioners involved.
Voting for the BAFTA Film Awards began on December 5. The longlists for the 2026 awards will be revealed on January 9, with nominations announced on January 27. The EE Rising Star Award, which is the only category voted on by the public, will have its nominees disclosed on January 14. The winner will be announced during the ceremony on February 22.
As anticipation builds for the 2026 EE BAFTA Film Awards, Cumming’s involvement promises to add a unique flair to an event that celebrates the best in the film industry.
