Aramark Partners with University at Albany for Dining Overhaul

Aramark (NYSE: ARMK) has secured a significant 15-year partnership with the University at Albany, initiating a comprehensive transformation of campus dining set to launch in January 2026. This collaboration aims to enhance student life by reimagining food offerings, service models, and dining spaces across the Albany, New York, campus.

Michael Ramella, executive director of University Auxiliary Services, emphasized that this partnership represents more than just an update to dining options. He stated, “At UAlbany, we believe a world-class education should be matched by a world-class environment.” The initiative focuses on student well-being and fostering a vibrant campus culture, aligning with UAlbany’s objectives of inclusivity and innovation.

Innovative Dining Experience

Operating under the banner of Great Dane Hospitality, Aramark plans to create a dynamic hospitality ecosystem that transforms dining venues into social hubs. Central to this initiative is District East, an expansive food hall designed to offer a variety of choices and serve as a central gathering place on campus.

The partnership includes the development of a Global Food Emporium, in collaboration with UAlbany alumnus and restaurateur Jamal Rasoully. This venue will feature diverse cuisines from Asia, India, the Middle East, Latin America, and more, catering to the varied tastes of the university community.

To enhance convenience, the initiative will leverage technology with features such as mobile ordering, self-checkout kiosks, and data-driven menu optimization. These advancements are intended to streamline the dining experience for students, faculty, and staff alike.

Fostering Community and Learning

An important aspect of the partnership is the incorporation of experiential learning opportunities. A student-operated Saxbys café will be established at the Massry School of Business, providing students with hands-on experience in hospitality and entrepreneurship.

Inclusivity is a key focus, with menus crafted to meet diverse dietary needs. Offerings will include halal, kosher, plant-based, allergen-friendly, and performance-oriented athletic nutrition options, ensuring that all students feel welcomed and supported.

Barbara Flanagan, president and CEO of Aramark Collegiate Hospitality, highlighted the broader goals of the collaboration. “This partnership is about more than food—it’s about creating an experience that supports student success and strengthens campus life,” she stated. The aim is to set a new standard for collegiate dining, encouraging community engagement and fostering long-term growth.
