New Leadership Transitions at Twin Cities Business Magazine

The Twin Cities Business magazine in Minnesota is entering a new chapter with the promotion of Adam Platt to editor. Platt, a longtime local journalist and the magazine’s current executive editor, will spearhead efforts to highlight the individuals and companies that drive the local economy. The announcement comes as part of a broader strategy to enhance the magazine’s storytelling capabilities and audience engagement.

In addition to Platt’s promotion, Charlie Rybak has been appointed as the editorial director. Rybak will concentrate on cross-platform storytelling, aiming to bolster the magazine’s presence across various channels. He will also take on the role of vice president of innovation at MSP Communications, the parent company of Twin Cities Business.

Rybak expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am honored to join the team to expand on the foundation that so many hard-working women and men have built here. I am excited to help find new ways to reach people that care about the Twin Cities, tell the stories of our local business community, and more. I think we are going to have a lot of fun.”

Before joining MSP Communications, Rybak served as the Chief Operating Officer of Cooperative Energy Futures and co-founded Minneapolis Voices, a digital news organization focused on local content. He brings a wealth of experience in growth and digital media strategy, backed by a degree from the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs.

The leadership changes were met with optimism from Jayne Haugen Olson, managing director of MSP Communications. She stated, “This is an exciting next step for our organization, and specifically for Twin Cities Business. Businesses today are looking forward and focusing on collaboration and innovation while also leaning into their core brands and the unique aspects of their DNA.” Olson also serves as editor-in-chief of Mpls.St.Paul Magazine.

Publisher Shelly Elmore echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of quality reporting and engaging storytelling for Minnesota’s business community. “With Adam and Charlie stepping into their new leadership roles, their vision and expertise will elevate our storytelling and strengthen our engagement with audiences through all of our products and channels,” she noted.

Platt and Rybak have assumed their new responsibilities immediately as part of a strategic vision to enhance Twin Cities Business magazine’s impact. The magazine is a crucial player in the local business landscape, providing insights and coverage that resonate with its audience.

MSP Communications is locally owned by Key Enterprises, with Vance Opperman serving as CEO and general counsel, and Nathaniel Opperman as president. The company also owns several other publications, including Mpls.St.Paul Magazine, TechChannel, Super Doctors, Studio MSP, and The Agency at MSP.

As Twin Cities Business embarks on this new journey, the combination of Platt’s editorial leadership and Rybak’s innovative approach is expected to strengthen the magazine’s role as a trusted resource for local business news and insights.
