Woman Accused of Killing Former Sheriff Hilton Set for Arraignment
Ladonna Delrie, arrested in connection to the death of former Rapides Parish Sheriff William Earl Hilton, is scheduled to be arraigned on May 12. Delrie remains held at the Madison Parish Correctional Center as authorities continue moving forward with prosecution.
The indictment, handed down by a grand jury on April 28, charges Delrie with first-degree murder, aggravated flight from an officer, and simple criminal damage to property. These charges follow a violent incident that left the former sheriff with fatal injuries.
Deadly Incident Sparks High-Speed Chase
According to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office (RPSO), Hilton returned home in the Hineston area shortly after 1 p.m. on March 23 to find Delrie exiting his residence. When Hilton approached, Delrie reportedly fled by running him over with her vehicle, inflicting severe, life-threatening injuries.
Hilton was airlifted to a hospital but later died from his wounds. Meanwhile, authorities located Delrie speeding eastbound on LA 28 at Leavines Road. When officers attempted to stop her, she refused, leading to a high-speed pursuit reaching speeds above 100 mph.
RPSO deployed spike strips to end the chase near the intersection of LA 28 and Cloverleaf Boulevard, where Delrie was arrested without further incident. The rapid response and coordination helped prevent additional threats to public safety.
