Cedar Hill Museum Unveils New Exhibits Marking City’s 180th Anniversary
The Cedar Hill Museum of History in Texas has opened two permanent new exhibits that immerse visitors in the city’s formative years, coinciding with Cedar Hill’s 180th anniversary. The grand unveiling took place during a VIP reception on April 25, 2026, drawing city officials, museum trustees, and local leaders to celebrate this historic milestone.
Joy Siler, Administrator of the Museum, expressed the excitement of the moment:
“We are so excited to share this new, immersive experience of Cedar Hill’s past with the community, especially for this 180th anniversary year of the city.”
These exhibits are designed to actively engage visitors with authentic local history, shedding light on Cedar Hill’s critical role in the development of Dallas County and the broader region.
New Exhibits Spotlight Cedar Hill’s Founding Families and Growth
Crafted in partnership with the nationally recognized Dallas design firm Museum Arts, Inc., the exhibits focus on two key eras in Cedar Hill’s history—the period from 1846 to 1869, highlighting the earliest settlers who arrived through the Peters Colony, and the transformative years 1870 to 1899 when commerce, community, and education reshaped the city.
The exhibit “Early Settlement” vividly features five life-sized figures representing the pioneers who laid the groundwork for Cedar Hill. These figures are paired with audio narratives describing the challenges and triumphs of life in one of the earliest settlements in Dallas County.
The complementary exhibit, “Becoming Cedar Hill,” traces how the city evolved into a vital agricultural and commercial hub, securing its place as a key supply depot for the region. This narrative emphasizes the enduring influence of family, education, and trade on Cedar Hill’s stability and growth as a community.
Community Support Fuels Museum’s Vision
Frankie Lee, President of the Museum Board of Directors, acknowledged the vital role of local organizations and donors in making the exhibits a reality.
“The Museum expresses its sincere appreciation to the Cedar Hill Community Development Corporation and the Dealey Family Foundation for the grants that made these new, permanent exhibits possible,”
Lee said. He also thanked the City of Cedar Hill and museum supporters for their ongoing partnership.
