Mount Ayr Golf Teams Dominate Creston on Senior Night with Dual Sweeps

Mount Ayr Golf swept both boys and girls dual meets against Creston Friday night, claiming four medalist honors at the Crestmoor Golf Club on Creston’s senior night.

The boys competition featured a tight race for medalist honors, with Creston’s Marshall Long edging Mount Ayr’s Avery Wolfe by one stroke with a 40, while Wolfe carded a 41 to finish runner-up. Mount Ayr’s depth proved critical as Jaxson Greene (43), Tanner Streit (45), and Drew Graham (45) helped post a winning team score of 174 against Creston’s 183. Creston’s Garrett Troutwine led the Panthers with a 44, trailing the top scorers closely.

In the juniors varsity boys division, Creston’s Javin Hyde and Mount Ayr’s Carter Levine tied with matching 44s, underscoring the competitive rivalry.

Girls Medalist Honors Highlight Mount Ayr’s Sweep

On the girls side, Mount Ayr’s defending state champion Jaylee Shaffer delivered a commanding performance as medalist with a blistering one-over par 38. Her teammate, Izzy Gilbertson, closely followed with a 48 for runner-up, while Creston’s Ricci Johnston finished just one stroke back at 49. Mount Ayr’s team score of 218 outpaced Creston’s 234, cementing their sweep on senior night.

The match also honored senior golfers from both teams, recognizing Izzy Spencer, Chasse Downing, Ethan Holliday, Marshall Long, Kylen Parsons, Gabe Blazek, and Kaizer Smith in a pre-match ceremony that added emotional gravity to the tightly contested duals.

Next Steps in the Season

Creston’s teams are already gearing up for continued competition with a match against Atlantic earlier in the week, and the boys varsity squad is set to travel to Denison for the prestigious Hawkeye Ten Tournament Wednesday, where they will look to rebound and challenge top talent from the region.

The Mount Ayr sweep on Creston’s senior night stands as a statement victory, highlighting the Tigers’ depth and championship pedigree, particularly from standout golfers like Shaffer and Wolfe. These results set a competitive tone as both programs pursue success in upcoming tournaments this season.

Fans in Alabama and across the United States watching high school golf can expect Mount Ayr to be a team to watch as they carry momentum forward from their dominant performance on Friday.
