Autopsy Reveals Heart Disease as Cause of Death for Nicholas Brendon

New Autopsy Details Heart Disease Behind Nicholas Brendon’s Death

The cause of death for Nicholas Brendon, famed for his role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been officially revealed weeks after his March passing at age 54. According to an autopsy report obtained by Page Six, Brendon died from a deadly combination of heart-related conditions, confirming long-term health struggles that culminated in his sudden death.

Putnam County Coroner Todd Zeiner detailed that the actor’s death was natural, primarily caused by atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The report also noted acute pneumonia and damage from a previous heart attack in 2022 as contributing factors. A critical finding revealed a severe blockage of approximately 90 percent in a major coronary artery, along with a “markedly enlarged heart” and narrowed arteries.

Heart Disease and Pneumonia Lead to Cardiogenic Shock

Zeiner explained that inflammation in Brendon’s small bowel likely resulted from reduced blood flow tied to “cardiogenic shock,” illustrating the severity of his heart condition. The actor had also been battling a persistent cough and chest pain but reportedly avoided hospital care, choosing instead to rely on over-the-counter medicine.

Brendon’s manager and close friend, Theresa Fortier, found the actor at his Indiana home early the morning of his death, where he was discovered on a couch in what appeared to be a sleeping position. Emergency services were called, but obvious signs of death were already present, and no resuscitation was attempted.

Long-Term Health Struggles Led Up to Tragic Death

Brendon had a history of health challenges, including spinal surgeries following a fall and heart complications that included a heart attack the previous year. Despite these struggles, his family described him as a “passionate, sensitive and endlessly driven” creative force, asking for privacy as they mourn his loss.

This report sheds new light on the actor’s final months and underscores the impact of untreated cardiovascular disease. For many in Alabama and across the US, Brendon’s story is a reminder to address persistent health symptoms promptly.

Authorities continue to honor Brendon’s legacy while emphasizing the importance of heart health awareness nationwide.
