The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) Final Leg is arriving in Downtown Nashville on the morning of June 13, 2026, bringing the iconic Flame of Hope as a powerful prelude to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games. This coast-to-coast event unites law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes in a historic relay leading to Minnesota, where 3,000 competitors including 118 athletes from Tennessee will compete in 16 Olympic-style sports from June 20-26.
The torch will pass through key areas of Nashville, including the famous Broadway district, before concluding with an official ceremony at Bridgestone Arena Plaza at 11:30 a.m. The event kicks off downtown at 10:30 a.m. Central Time, inviting the local community to come out and cheer on the torchbearers and athletes who embody inclusion, determination, and unity.
The Final Leg is the culminating chapter of a multi-state journey that spans approximately 10,000 miles and crosses 13 states and all US time zones. Starting in Chicago, the birthplace of Special Olympics, the torch travels on two parallel routes—East Coast and West/Central—before converging in Minnesota for the Opening Ceremony. The flame will ultimately ignite the cauldron at Huntington Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus on June 20, marking the official start of the Games.
The LETR Final Leg includes a national team of 73 participants, made up of 53 law enforcement officers and six Special Olympics athletes, each selected for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the movement. Nashville’s torchbearers include local law enforcement officials and athletes nominated for their commitment and service, underscoring the deep partnership between these two communities.
“It’s an honor for Nashville to be part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s Final Leg to the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games,” said Adam Germek, President and CEO of Special Olympics Tennessee. “This Torch Run represents the strong partnership between law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes, and it sends a clear message that inclusion belongs in every community. We encourage everyone to come out, cheer, and celebrate the athletes who inspire us all.”
The Flame of Hope serves as a symbol of empowerment for people with intellectual disabilities nationwide and embodies the spirit of inclusion and athletic achievement. The LETR movement raises critical funds and awareness, supporting year-round Special Olympics programs across the United States.
Residents of Nashville and surrounding regions are urged to attend this moving event—free to the public—to show solidarity with athletes and law enforcement officials united under this inspiring cause. Detailed route maps and additional event information will be released in the coming weeks.
